If you've looked at flights from Oslo to Georgia, you've probably seen the same thing I did: 17-hour itineraries with two stops, a 6-hour layover in Warsaw at 2am, and a price that looks cheap until you realize you'll lose a full day of your holiday just getting there.
That's the Wizz Air route through Poland. It's cheap, yes. But it's not the only option — and it's not the best one.
The sweet spot: Turkish Airlines via Istanbul
There's a route that gets you from Oslo to Batumi in about 9 hours total, with a comfortable 1h 35m layover in Istanbul. It's Turkish Airlines, and it's the one I'd book for myself.
Here's how it works:
- Oslo (OSL) → Istanbul (IST): roughly 3h 30m
- Layover in Istanbul: 1h 35m — enough for a coffee, not enough to get bored
- Istanbul (IST) → Batumi (BUS): roughly 2h
Total travel time: under 9 hours. No overnight stays. No 2am arrivals. You leave Oslo in the morning and you're on the Black Sea by evening.
What it costs
Turkish Airlines isn't as cheap as Wizz Air, but it's not expensive either. Round-trip fares from Oslo to Batumi typically land between 3,500 and 5,000 kroner depending on the season and how early you book. That's the price of a single night in a decent Paris hotel.
And unlike the budget carriers, Turkish includes a meal, a checked bag, and a seat you can actually recline in. For a 9-hour journey, that matters.
The cheapest flight isn't always the cheapest trip. A 17-hour itinerary costs you a day of your holiday — and that day is worth more than the 1,500 kroner you saved.
What about Kutaisi?
Kutaisi (KUT) is Georgia's budget airport, and Wizz Air flies there from several European cities. If you're chasing the absolute lowest fare, it's worth checking. But from Oslo, the connections are longer — usually 14+ hours — and the airport is 1h 47m from Batumi by road.
For a 7-day trip, the math usually favors flying directly into Batumi. You save a day of travel and you arrive where you actually want to be.
The bottom line
If you want the cheapest possible ticket and you have time to spare, Wizz Air through Warsaw will get you there. If you want a trip that feels like a holiday from the moment you leave Oslo, book Turkish via Istanbul.
Nine hours. One stop. A glass of Turkish tea in the middle. Then the Black Sea.
